Your first child joining secondary school is a big milestone for the whole family, and we understand that there may be many questions that parents have about the process. We have a number of ways to support parents at this crucial time too.
Class of 2031 Parent Facebook Group
All parents of students joining us in September are encouraged to join our Facebook group. This can be found via the “Groups” tab on the main Woodlands Facebook page once the places for September 2026 are released in March. This group is a really useful way to support one another, but also to ask questions and find key information. The group is overseen by Miss Sutton, one of our Deputy Headteachers, so there is always someone on hand to help with any queries.
Welcome Event for Families new to the Woodlands Community
If this is your first child to attend Woodlands, we would like to welcome you to the community with an informal “Coffee and Cake” event after school. The date for this will be sent to you as soon as places for September 2026 have been offered in March. This will simply be a chance to meet key staff, find out a little more about the transition process, especially our transition week, and ask any questions about your child’s particular needs.
Induction Evening
We will hold a formal induction evening for all parents and students during Transition Week. This will help you find out more about our school, our expectations and our ethos, as well as being an important opportunity to meet key members of staff and try on school uniform. We would encourage all families to attend this event, on Wednesday 1st July and ensure that they have all the information they need for their child to start with us in September. This will take place on Wednesday 1st July for the Class of 2031.
All students in the Class of 2031 will be invited to join us at Woodlands for a whole week from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July. This will be a fantastic opportunity for children to spend the whole week learning what it is like to be a Woodlands student; taking part in lessons and other activities; and most importantly, making new friends!
You will find more information about Transition Week in the letter sent home, but please mark this exciting event on your calendar.
Please ensure that you have completed the Transition Week Information Form here: https://forms.gle/
This is essential so that we can provide the correct support for your child.
