How will we support your child to make the transition to Woodlands?

We know that this can be a challenging time for children, and we are keen to ensure that we support all students to make a smooth transition into secondary school.  It is natural to be a little anxious about this important time, but we hope that the activities that we have planned will support your child as they prepare to become a Woodlands student.

Primary School Visits

All students will be visited in their primary school by a member of the transition team. This will help us get to know all the children and they will be able to ask us all of their important questions. This will also mean that they all have a familiar face to look out for when they arrive at Woodlands.

When we visit the primary school, we will also chat with class teachers, to find out about the childrens’ strengths and likes and dislikes, as well as any additional support they may need.

Welcome Packs

After the Easter break, you will receive two welcome packs – one for your child and one for you as a parent. This will contain lots of important information about Woodlands, including details of our uniform and PE kit requirements, times of the school day and lots more! These are very handy guides to starting at secondary school, and we would suggest that you keep them in a safe place to answer all your questions as we go through the summer term.

You will also receive a set of registration forms and a parent contract, which will need to be returned to the school as soon as possible, so we can begin the process of enrolling your child as a Woodlands student.

Transition Week

All students in the Class of 2031 will be invited to join us at Woodlands for a whole week from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July. This will be a fantastic opportunity for children to spend the whole week learning what it is like to be a Woodlands student; taking part in lessons and other activities; and most importantly, making new friends!

You will find more information about Transition Week in the letter sent home, but please mark this exciting event on your calendar.

Bespoke Support Opportunities

For students with Special Educational Needs, we will work with our primary colleagues to ensure that any additional transition support is put in place prior to students joining us.  Please contact our KS3 SENDCo if you would like to discuss your child’s needs in person –
