At Woodlands we place a strong emphasis on ensuring that all of our students leave us with a secure post-16 plan.
Our extensive careers programme ensures that all students have careers education delivered through PSHE lessons throughout the year for all year groups, alongside a range of exciting careers-based events and visits. Please see our PSHE and careers overview on the website for more information relating to the variety of topics they will cover.
Every year 11 student has an academic mentor who works closely with you and your child to ensure that your child makes a sensible and well-informed decision about their post-16 plan.
The school also has a Careers Advisor, Vicky Hall, who works in school one day a week. By the end of the academic year, all year 10 students will have had the opportunity to meet with her to discuss their post-16 plan. Should students miss this appointment or require an additional one, this can be made available to them in Year 11.
We ensure that all Year 11 students are made fully aware of Open Evenings for all local colleges and external providers so that students can take up the opportunity to visit colleges and gather all the necessary information for them to make well-informed decisions about their futures. Students’ mentors support them in making online applications to colleges and providers and ensure students attend interviews once invited to do so.
We firmly believe that there is no greater inspiration for our students than learning about the journeys of people from our own local community. As a result, we are in the process of building an alumni community from which we can draw on the varied experiences of our former students. If you are a former Woodlands student with a story to tell, words of advice or potential recruitment possibilities, please join our alumni and help us in our journey to inspire and educate our learners about the many wonderful possibilities available to them once they enter the world of work.
Our Careers provision is measured against the Gatsby Benchmarks and the impact is evaluated through pupil evaluations and measured through a post-16 tracking system.
